What are those stains on my roof?

Those dark stains on your roof are algae. The textbook name for this type of
air borne algae is Gloeocapsa Magma. Gloeocapsa magma is found in warm
humid environments and often appears on the North side of the home and
under trees. The reason that it is usually seen on the North side of the
home is because; the north side gets the least amount of sun which causes
this area stay wet longer than the others. Gloeocapsa Magma also, forms
under trees because of the shade and the fact that when trees drip water
after it rains, it keeps the surface wet longer.

We can make your roof look new again for a small faction of the cost of re-
roofing you house. Don’t replace your roof because it’s dirty, just clean it.

Will this algae harm my roof?

Yes, if left untreated, over time the algae growth can cause your shingles to
dry, crack and curl.  Leaks may occur, which will result in premature roof
replacement.  With proper maintenance such as cleaning, your roof should
last at least as long as the warranty period.

Is it safe to clean my roof with bleach or high
pressure?

Bleach or high pressure should never be used to clean your roof. Bleach
can cause you shingles to dry out and curl, as well as harm your plants and
pets. High pressure cleaning is capable of removing large amounts of the
granules embedded in the shingles surface, which may reduce its lifespan.
